Katie Boulter narrowly missed out on making the semi-finals of the Tianjin Open today as she was defeated by world number 6 Karolína Plíšková 5-7 6-0 6-3.

Boulter was pushing for her first victory over a top ten player, and it looked like she might be in for a big upset as she took a 2-0 lead in the third set, but it was not to be as the more experienced Plíšková eventually came through.

Despite the loss, things are looking up for Boulter, as the 22-year-old is likely to take her place in the world's top 100 players for the first time when the next rankings come out.

We put Boulter through our very own Kollectaball Challenge recently, and we can confirm it's no surprise she's doing so well on the tour!

It was a pleasure to have Katie on the Kollectaball Challenge, she really gave our tennis ball collector a workout, and we look forward to seeing her climb even further up the rankings!

In the other quarterfinal matchups, Caroline Garcia was leading Petra Martic 6-2, 1-0 before Martic was forced to pull out, Garcia will play the winner of Su-wei Hsieh and Elise Mertens in the semi-finals.

The other semi-final will be contested by Plíšková and Timea Bacsinszky who defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the previous round.
